 The Romantic Era happened around the 19th century and was Characterized by a variety of styles. I will be comparing art from the Romanticism and Gothic Revival styles. Something to keep in mind is that the Romanticism style emphasized the individuals and it celebrated the natural world. Romanticism emphasizes emotion.  The gothic revival was vastly different from the previously popular styles. Many artists got their inspiration from classical forms of ancient Greece and Rome.   This is Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich. This painting is a part of the Romanticism style. He made it in 1818; where the painting was physically painted is unknown. I chose the Morality and the Art of the Classical era. This first piece here off to the left, is called The Swing this painting was made in 1767 by   Jean-Honoré Fragonard. He crafted this painted in Londe n. I feel these paintings all demonstrate the era I picked because of their style and coloring. The Woman is placed in such a way that shows the motion of the swing so you can physically play it out as if she were there in real-time. The Artist's choice of background color makes the peachy pink dress pop out even more from the bushes. She is used as a tease to a younger man depicted in this painting. His line work in the painting also causes everything to be more life-like. I would own a copy of this painting I find it whimsical. The next painting I have chosen is called Diana and Cupid it was made by Pompeo Batoni  in 1761. He made this painting in Italy. Diana in this painting is seen taking the bow from Cupid so that Cupid is forced to take a brake. We also can...

  St. Peters Basilica  I chose St. Peter Basilica. It's located in Vatican City and was finished in 1626. The Original design was central. However, things were added making the new shape a rectangle; Michelangelo then changed it again to support the dome. St. Peters Basilica reflects Symmetry, Proportion, and Balance. The Dome is decorated with Mosaics and Inscriptions. The crown exhibits balance with its measurements and windows. The diameter is 42 meters, the height is 136 meters, and it has 16 windows. Something I really like about the dome is how it has so many even numbers. The facade has two levels of columns that support a triangular pediment. This was designed by Carlo Maderno. The pieta is in St. Peter's Basilica; Michelangelo made a sculpture of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus' dead body.   The Virgin and Child with the infant St. John the Baptist This painting is by Sandro Botticelli around 1490- 1500. The specific date is unknown. They now keep the painting in Museo De Arte De Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo Brazil. Sandro Botticelli was born in 1445 and died in 1510 his style was early Renaissance, and he went to school at Florentine School. Something I thought had a huge impact on the peace is the element of color. I couldn't imagine the piece in black in white, could you? They would still be able to have the contrast of the woman's grace. The color brings the woman to life in the painting making her seem alive yet frozen in time. The linework he used to make it so the painting would have a dainty touch. If the lines were harsh, she wouldn't nearly seem to have as much grace and poise as she does in this painting.
