St. Peters Basilica
I chose St. Peter Basilica. It's located in Vatican City and was finished in 1626. The Original design was central. However, things were added making the new shape a rectangle; Michelangelo then changed it again to support the dome. St. Peters Basilica reflects Symmetry, Proportion, and Balance. The Dome is decorated with Mosaics and Inscriptions. The crown exhibits balance with its measurements and windows. The diameter is 42 meters, the height is 136 meters, and it has 16 windows. Something I really like about the dome is how it has so many even numbers. The facade has two levels of columns that support a triangular pediment. This was designed by Carlo Maderno. The pieta is in St. Peter's Basilica; Michelangelo made a sculpture of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus' dead body. St. Peters Basilica was influenced by the Council of Trent because the Council of Trent suggested using a Longitudinal structure in churches. I would like to take a picture of the dome, but I need to do so. The mosaics and the hues balance each other out beautifully.
